INEC Chairman Gives Reasons Why He Postponed Elections (Read His Full Statement Here). By Mal. Harun        Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has taken full responsibility for the postponement of the elections. He cited bad weather and other logistics issues, as well as cases of lawsuits filed against the commission. He, however, restated the commitment of the commission to ensuring free, fair and credible elections. He said the commission was confronted with myriad of challenges and had to resort to postponing the elections. Below is his full statement:  l. About thirteen hours ago, I conveyed to Nigerians the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reschedule the 2019 general elections by one week. INEC POSTPONED ELECTION TILL 23 FEBRUARY 2019 AND 9 MARCH 2019

INEC postpones elections till 23 February and 9 March 2019 The Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) has decided to shift Saturday's presidential and National Assembly elections till next week 23 February. The Governorship and state assembly elections will take place on 9 March, instead of 2 March as initially scheduled. It was one of the decisions reached early today in a crunch talk between between INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu and 12 national commissioners in Abuja, according to sources close to the meeting. Professor Yakubu will be briefing the media later today on the decision, amidst reports of logistics problems faced by the commission.

ASUP SUSPENDS TWO MONTHS NATION WIDE STRIKE

BREAKING: Polytechnics Union, ASUP Suspends 2 Months Nationwide Strike By Mallam Harun The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has officially suspended a strike it commenced two months ago. The union directed polytechnic lecturers to resume duty from tomorrow, February 13. The suspension of the strike was confirmed by the national president of the union, Usman Dutse, on Tuesday. The union embarked on a strike on December 12 over the failure of the federal government to implement agreements reached with the union in 2017. ASUP went on strike in November 2017. But when it reached an agreement with the federal government to implement the recommendations of the 2014 NEEDS assessment, the strike was suspended 15 days after. The agreement particularly highlighted the need for increased funding of polytechnics. Details later…
