INEC Chairman Gives Reasons Why He Postponed Elections (Read His Full Statement Here). By Mal. Harun        Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has taken full responsibility for the postponement of the elections. He cited bad weather and other logistics issues, as well as cases of lawsuits filed against the commission. He, however, restated the commitment of the commission to ensuring free, fair and credible elections. He said the commission was confronted with myriad of challenges and had to resort to postponing the elections. Below is his full statement:  l. INEC postpones elections till 23 February and 9 March 2019 The Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) has decided to shift Saturday's presidential and National Assembly elections till next week 23 February. The Governorship and state assembly elections will take place on 9 March, instead of 2 March as initially scheduled. It was one of the decisions reached early today in a crunch talk between between INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu and 12 national commissioners in Abuja, according to sources close to the meeting. Professor Yakubu will be briefing the media later today on the decision, amidst reports of logistics problems faced by the commission.

BREAKING: Polytechnics Union, ASUP Suspends 2 Months Nationwide Strike By Mallam Harun The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has officially suspended a strike it commenced two months ago. The union directed polytechnic lecturers to resume duty from tomorrow, February 13. The suspension of the strike was confirmed by the national president of the union, Usman Dutse, on Tuesday. The union embarked on a strike on December 12 over the failure of the federal government to implement agreements reached with the union in 2017. ASUP went on strike in November 2017. But when it reached an agreement with the federal government to implement the recommendations of the 2014 NEEDS assessment, the strike was suspended 15 days after. Walter Onnoghen The Code of Conduct Bureau has slammed corruption charges against the Chief Justice of Nigeria at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, court documents showed. Walter Onnoghen became the Chief Justice in March 2017, less than six months after the homes of several federal judges, including those of the Supreme Court, were searched in an anti-corruption raid. On January 10, the Nigerian government filed charges against the head of the country’s judicial arm, accusing him of asset declaration offences. The government said it was only in 2016 after the controversial crackdown on judges that Mr Onnoghen partially declared his asset, but still failed to declare a series of bank accounts, denominated in local and foreign currencies, linked to him at a Standard Chartered Bank branch in Abuja.
